Historical Great Lakes: The Avon Historical Society will meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Old Town Hall of 1871, corner of Detroit Road and Stoney Ridge Roads. Betty Lou Higgins will present ''Favorite Great Lakes Stories.'' For more information, contact Del Fischer at 934-6106.

Women's meeting: The Avon Women's Club will meet May 9 at 7 p.m. at the Avon Community Center, 2155 Eaton Drive. ''Are You Taking Good Care of Your Skin?'' will be the topic for the evening's program which will be presented by specialists in the field of dermatology. Student loans: The Avon Women's Club sponsors The Avon Student Loan Fund, which has loans up to $1,500 per school year available to help young men and women meet their school and living expenses while attending a college or university. A minimum of 12 credit hours must have been completed to qualify for a loan. Applications are available from Carol Burmeister at 937-5270 or from the Avon High School Guidance Department.

Book discussion: Join the Afternoon Adult Book Discussion Group when it meets May 24 at 2:30 p.m. at the Avon Branch Library to discuss ''Ethan Frome.'' Copies of the book are available at the library. For more information, call the library at 934-4743.

At the French Creek Nature Center:

Preschoolers and their parents can have some ''Garden Fun'' with nature crafts on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m.

The Yarn Club meets May 9 from 1 to 3 p.m.

A Burrell Homestead tour will be held Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at 4792 E. River Road.
