Historical Society meeting: The Avon Historical Society will meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Old Town Hall of 1871, corner of Detroit Road and Stoney Ridge Road. John Bender will speak on Historic Boston and the Democratic Convention. For more information, call Del Fischer at 934-6106.

Scholarships and loans available:

The Avon Student Loan Fund, sponsored by the OFWC Avon Women's Club, has money available for higher education. Applicants must be residents of Avon with a high school diploma. Loans up to $1500 per school year are available to help worthy young men and women meet their school and living expenses while attending a college or university after a minimum of 12 credit hours have been completed. Loans can also be used for accredited or licensed schools giving courses in nursing, business, etc., to individuals who have completed a high school course. For more information, call Carol Burmeister at 937-5270. Applications are also available at the Avon High School Guidance Department.

Avon Junior Women's Club is now accepting applications for scholarships. Available scholarships are a $1,000 college scholarship for a women residing in Avon, at least 21 years old, who has completed at least a quarter/semester of college with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. A second scholarship is $500 to a graduating female senior from Avon High School with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. For more information call Kelly Kacenjar at 937-6231 or go online to www.ajwc.org.

Theater production: Avon High School proudly presents ''The Music Man.'' Show times are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. in the auditorium at Avon High School, 37545 Detroit Road. Ticket prices are $5 for seniors and students and $7 for adults, day of the show, and $2 off each ticket price in advance. For more information, or to purchase tickets, call 934-6171.

Senior's meeting: The Avon Seniors Inc. will hold its monthly meeting at Tom's Country Place on March 9 at 10 a.m. The presentation will be by Lorain County Auditor Mark Stewart, who will speak about the Homestead Act and other ways to save seniors' money. Sign-ups will also be taken at this meeting for the annual spring luncheon. For more information, call Jane Richard at 934-6944.

French Creek Nature Center:

The yarn group meets Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring a H size needle and yarn.

The movie on Wednesday at 1 p.m. will have a cat theme, and Saturday's movie at 2 p.m. will be an animated movie.
