Pam Fechter of Avon Lake has officially beenĀ selected to fill the newly created position of economic development coordinator in Avon.

A resident of the area for the past 10 years, Fechter beat out over two dozen candidates for the position. For the past six years she has worked with Team Lorain County, "an independent economic development organization that develops county-wide economic development programs," currently serving as their retention/expansion projects manager ...

The position of economic development coordinating appears to be a work in progress, having been created by Mayor Bryan Jensen in response to the intention of planning Director James Piazza to retire at the end of the year.

Fechter explained the position as working to coordinate expansion and growth in Avon area business. She plans on working with all size businesses to help direct them to the resources they need to continue to grow. She is scheduled to start May 5 [2014]. Piazza will play a big role in helping her find solid ground in the community, something she had already started through her work with Team Lorain County ...

Fechter and her husband, David, who have been together since junior year of high school, have moved about the country, going wherever David's job took them. When moving to this area, Fechter seized the opportunity to utilize Lorain County Community College's partnership with Cleveland State University to pursue a bachelor's degree in urban management, which she received in 2011, while juggling two children and a part-time job. "The LCCC partnership with CSU is phenomenal," Fechter said. "The cost savings alone and the accessibility."

She believes that taking the time to pursue her degree has opened up opportunities for her, especially the chance to have been considered for the economic development coordinator position in Avon. With her official start date being May 5 [2014], she appears eager to hit the ground running ...
