2010 Fall Program of the Avon Historical Society
Letter from Theresa Szippl, Membership Chairperson
It's time again for the Avon Historical Society membership drive. We sincerely appreciate your support during this past year and ask for your renewal of that support for the coming September 2010 - August 2011 year.
Mrs. Jean Fischer and Mr. Stan Hawryluk our Program Chairmen have again been hard at work getting our fall topics and speakers lined-up. Thank you to Jean and Stan for making our programs so enjoyable. If you know of a program that might be of interest to our group, please share that with Jean and Stan for possible future programs.
As a reminder, our REGULAR meetings will be held on the first Wednesday of the month at the Old Town Hall at 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday, September 1 - Jean Fischer will present "Millionaires Row" at the meeting of the Avon Historical Society at 7 pm on Wednesday, 9-1-10, at the Old Town Hall of 1871, corner of Detroit and Stoney Ridge. For more information, contact Jean Fischer at 934-6106 or Stan Hawryluk at 934-0224.
The homes of Millionaires Row were built mostly in the 1880's on estates that extended from Euclid Avenue to Lake Erie. Many of these homes were owned by the same industrialists who established Lakeview Cemetary: Rockefeller (oil), Wade (telegraph), Mather (shipping), Bolton, Payne, and more, who made Cleveland great.
The Historical Society will be participating in this year's Fall Into Avon - September 11 & 12. We'll have tables at the Taste of Avon and the Old Town Hall of 1871. More information will be announced at the September 1 meeting.
Wednesday, October 6 - Matt Nahorn will present "Indian Ridge Museum from Old to New". Matt is maintaining the tradition of Col. Raymond Vietzen.
