Minutes of the Avon Historical Society, 5-4-16

  • 9-- 10-11 -- 2016: Fall Into Avon


    President Ralph White called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

    The minutes of the April 6, 2016 meeting were approved as read with Nancy McGhee making the motion and Susie Cory seconding.

    17 members were present.

    Treasurer Christine White reported a balance of $5,138.47 in the checking account.

    There were no new bills to present.

    In old business:

    Ralph had no news to report from the Landmark's Preservation Commission.

    2 letters were sent to historic home owners last month, Jean Fischer and Pat and Denise Higgins.

    In new business:

    Ralph asked for volunteers to take care of the two flower boxes outside the hall and to help with a spring clean up of the hall. Those interested should see Christine after the meeting.

    Reminder that we will have a June meeting before breaking for the summer, resuming meetings in September.

    The meeting was adjourned at 7:10 pm with Susie Cory making the motion and Theresa Szippl seconding.

    Ralph introduced the guest speaker, Ann Michael, with her Old Town Hall of 1871, southeast corner of Detroit and Stoney Ridge.

    "Fall Into Avon" (September 10-11, 2016) will be set up at a new location -- the Village School building grounds on Detroit Road -- which is a more central location.

    Mike Laub, Avon's Superintendent of Schools, has already approved use of the School property. Sharon Vorisek has asked for Committee members and "Fall Into Avon" volunteers.
