AVON PARKS

NORTHGATE COMMUNITY PARK is located off Colorado Avenue on Eaton Drive in central Avon. This park features an outdoor walking and fitness track, playground facilities, soccer fields, a sand volleyball court, a fishing pond and a skating pond. The Avon Community Center is located across the street.

AVON COMMUNITY PARK AT SCHWARTZ ROAD is located at Schwartz Road and Jaycox Road in east Avon. This park features three baseball fields, two soccer fields, a picnic pavilion shelter, playground facilities, restrooms and a skating pond.

HERITAGE SQUARE AT FRENCH CREEK is located at the corner of Detroit and Stoney Ridge Road in central Avon. This park features a gazebo, park benches, picnic tables and a flower garden.

VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK is a new park under construction. This park will be located off of Detroit Road in west Avon. It will feature sporting facilities such as baseball diamonds and soccer fields. This project is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2002.

AVON RECREATION PROGRAMS

Adult Co-Ed Volleyball - For men and women out of high school. We offer two sessions, each one lasting 12 weeks. The first session runs from October through December and the second runs from January through March. Games are played on Sunday evenings at the Avon Middle School Gym.

Men's Basketball - For men out of high school. We offer two sessions, each one lasting 12 weeks. The first session runs from October through December and the second runs from January through March. Games are played Sunday afternoons at the Avon Middle School Gym.

Adult Physical Fitness - For men and women who are interested in a low-impact workout on weight machines and free weights. Individual programs are designed by a certified instructor. Class meets in November through April on Monday and Thursday evenings in the conditioning room at Avon High School.

Little Eagles Basketball - For boys and girls ages 8 through sixth grade. The program is instruction and games, taught by the high school coaches and players. The program begins in December and runs through February and is held at Avon High School on Saturday morning.

Baseball Skills Clinic - An indoor baseball skills clinic for any child playing rookie, minor or major league baseball through the Little League Association. The clinic is run in cooperation with Avon Little League Coaches and Avon High School Boys Baseball with instruction on Saturday mornings in March at the Avon High School Gym.

Adult Co-Ed Softball - For men and women out of high school. The program starts in June and runs to August. Games are played on Sunday evenings at Avon Community Park at Schwartz Road..

Supervised Playground Days - For kids of all ages during summer vacation. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (weather permitting) children can participate in structured activities at Avon Community Park at Schwartz Road. The program starts the beginning of July and runs to the first week of August.

Health Screenings - In cooperation with St. John Westshore Hospital, we offer various health screenings and blood pressure readings on the 2nd Tuesday of the month throughout the year. These programs are offered for the health and welfare of area residents. The screenings are held at the Lodge of the Avenbury Lakes Developm;ent.

Adult CPR Classes - In cooperation with the Avon Fire Department, we offer adult heart saver certification classes that are held at various times throughout the year.

Safety Town - For any child entering Kindegarten in the Fall that lives in Avon or will attend Avon Schools, including St. Mary's and Holy Trinity. The program is run in June the first two weeks after school is out for the summer. Registration takes place during the kindergarten screening at each school.

Soccer Skills Clinic - For boys and girls K through 8th grade for one week in August.

FUTURE PROGRAMS

Little Eagles Basketball - for boys and girls ages 6 & 7.

Little Eagles Volleyball - for boys and girls ages 8 through the 6th grade.

Youth Gymnastics - For boys and girls toddler to early elementary school age.

Cheerleading - For boys and girls in the 5th & 6th grade.

Youth Football - For boys and girls in the 2nd through 6th grade interested in Flag or Tackle Football. This program is being developed by two area residents with the Recreation Department acting in an advisory position.

PROGRAMS OFFERED BY OTHER ORGANIZATIONS

Soccer - The Avon Soccer association offers two sessions, fall and spring, for boys and girls ages 4 through 15.

Little League Baseball and Softball - The Avon Little League Association offers this program for boys and girls ages 5 through 12.

Little League Thurman Munson Baseball and Softball - The Avon Little League Association offers this program for boys and girls ages 13 through 15.

2002 Scheduled Health Screenings - All Avon residents are invited to come. All Health Screenings are held at Avenbury Lodge, 35400 Middleton Dr.

January 8 - Blood Pressure check 5 - 7 pm; "Making Healthy Eating Fun" talk at 6 pm;

February 12 - Blood Pressure check 5 -7 pm; February 12 - CPR Class - Adult CPR 6 - 9 pm; February 19 - CPR Class - Infant & Child 6-9 pm;

March 12 - Blood Pressure check and Cholestrol screening 5-7 pm;

April 9 - Blood Pressure check 5-7 pm; Reflexology talk at 6 pm;

May 14 - Blood Pressure check 5-7 pm; Body fat screening 5-7 pm; "Getting Fit for Summer" talk at 6 pm;

June, July, August - No Sessions

September 10 - Blood Pressure check 5-7 pm; "Grandparenting Skills" talk at 6 pm;

October 8 - Blood Pressure check 5-7 pm; Glucose screening 5-7 pm; Diabetic talk at 6 pm;

November 12 - Blood Pressure check 5-7 pm; Foot screening - 5-7 pm;

December 10 - Blood Pressure check 5-7
